I’m only going to write this one more time:
WHOLE FOODS, COME TO MY AREA!
Although driving an hour into dirty Jerz isn’t too bad, I’d really appreciate if you’d put a store in the Hudson Valley, New York area!
Cassandra and I wandered the aisles of the biggest Whole Foods I’ve ever been to for over 2 hours. It was great. I could have spent all day in there. Until two ladies tried to pickpocket us. Yeah, no joke!
As I’m filling up my bags of steel cut oats and bulgur in the bulk aisle, I hear someone profusely apologizing to Cassandra for accidently trying to go into her handbag. Apparently, It looked just like this lady’s friend’s bag, which her wallet was in. After her exaggerated apology, I didn’t think anything more about it. Until 5 minutes later when we hear someone yell for security, the same lady was “accidentally” trying to get into another customer’s bag. I can’t believe people were trying to pickpocket at Whole Foods! What is this world coming to? I felt like I was in the ghetto. Which I wasn’t, I was in one of the richest counties in New Jersey! Either way, it made for an interesting experience.
I needed to document Cassandra’s first trip to this foodie haven, so I attempted to take a photo outside the store. I sat my camera on top of a garbage can and made it take the picture itself so we totally thought we were too tall for the picture, which is why we’re crouching. I have so many mismatched reusable shopping bags. I need a matching set!
I didn’t photograph my goods but here’s what I ended up picking up:
- Maple syrup
- Organic cornmeal (I’m making maple corn muffins in the near future!)
- Frozen corn
- Green yogurt
- Organic carrots
- Baby spinach
- Pineapple
- Mangoes
- Kiwi
- Young coconut
- Coconut water
- Bulgur
- Steel Cut Oats
- Polenta
We also picked up lunch there. Cass treated me to some sesame tofu from the prepared food section and I had it with a side of broccoli. I love getting tofu that I didn’t make. I never know what kind of texture to expect! This was good and firm, like a meat.
Cassandra got cold cuts to make a sandwich because she hasn’t been able to eat them in like years due to the usual salt added (corn allergy side affect). Luckily Whole Foods lists all the ingredients (even in their prepared food!) and we found some turkey that’s made with sea salt. No luck on a corn free cupcake or dessert though
I’ll find her one some day!
When I made it home, I started on that Gingered Sweet Potato and Carrot Soup that I had gotten the ingredients for. I had ripped this recipe out of a magazine recently but I also found it online here if you’re interested.
I thought it was going to turn out like baby food but it was pretty good. I preferred it without the Greek yogurt on top though.
After dinner I started getting ready for the main event of the night: LOST. I peeled, chopped, and assembled a fruit platter for Mark and myself. Ok, I may have gone overboard.
We had mango, pineapple, and kiwi chunks, followed by sips of coconut water. Which taught us that we really don’t like coconut water.
I liked it best in the actual Young Coconut. It had more of a milky taste than the water in the box.
You can also eat the meat of the young coconut (the white stuff) after you finish the water. They call it coconut jelly due to it’s jelly-like texture.
Lost, like the coconut water, was extremely disappointing. I won’t post any spoilers but I really hope it gets better as the season progresses!
Now I’m off to work out, since I spent so much time cutting up fruit yesterday that I missed yoga class.
Have a great day!
Question: If you watch Lost, did you like last night’s episode? If you don’t, have you ever done a theme food night for a show you watch?
