Around the World

I was so surprised at your comments yesterday – who am I to assume because I call it oatmeal, everybody does?!?

That’s another thing I love about blogging, I get to learn so much about other cultures and family traditions. I found out from Ellie it’s called porridge in the U.K., from Neela it’s also called that in Australia, and from Sophia that it’s called rice gruel in Asia!

What other foods can you think of that have different names in different areas of the world? Even just moving from New York to Pittsburgh I could notice differences – I said soda, they said pop, I said sprinkles, they said jimmies.

I had breakfast at Mark’s yesterday. His Dad is a Dunkin Donuts addict so wasn’t surprised to see a DD bag on the counter when I went downstairs. I made myself a multigrain bagel with Naturally More PB and wheat germ with instant black coffee on the side.

Dunkin Donuts really hit the mark with the new multi-grain donut though. It was really good, and had real grains in it. It had 9 grams of fiber, but also 390 calories. A little more caloric than my normal breakfasts once I add my pb spread but I say a big breakfast is always better than no breakfast at all!

Then I got snowed in at work for the early half of the day.

After having to be pushed out of my parking spot by a stranger (thank God for him!) , I made it back to Mark’s house since he lives closer to my job than I do. I took this picture on my way in, but I really wish I had remembered to take one on the way out. So far my town has gotten 20 inches, the most in downstate NY!

I was ravenous because I never got lunch break. I immediately dipped into his box of zbars that he keeps in his room.

The honey graham flavor is my favorite but was his least favorite out of the variety pack – the others being chocolate chip and brownie. Lucky for me because now there’s a million left!

I proceeded to have a can of vegetable soup for lunch, nothing worth photographing. I hate being snowed in here because I have a thing with cooking in houses that aren’t my own.

For dinner I had salmon with a side of roasted red peppers.

In other news, I got the “Creative Writer” blogger award from Stef. Thank you SO much!

Hi bloggies!

Yesterday was kinda a disaster day for me. It was just one of those days I guess! Got asked to come in early to work, got in a fight with my sister-in-law (and then she subsequently de-friended me on facebook when I did nothing to her, who does that?!), and felt like eating everything in sight, all day. Mainly I’m stressed out by the sister-in-law thing but today’s a new day, and I will not let it bother me!

In 2 short hours I’ll be on my way to Whole Foods with Cassandra, one of my very favorite places and one of my very favorite persons :) Right now I’m going through all my teared out magazine recipes to see what I feel like making this week so I know what to buy. How does gingered sweet potato and carrot soup sound?I need to make all my winter recipes since this winter is going so fast!

Tonight is Lululemon yoga at 6:30, and then I should be home just in time for LOST! Yeah, it’s definitely going to be a good day today. Unless, for all you other Lost fans, I start watching it and none of the characters remember each other. That bomb better not do what it’s supposedly going to do!

I made the most delicious bowl of oats yesterday morning. How have I never tried sweet potato oats? I microwaved a sweet potato while the oats were cooking and then just took the skin off and dropped it in so it turned into sweet potato chunks. Next time I want to try mashing it before putting it in.

Here’s what else went into the mix:

  • Steel cut oats
  • Coconut milk
  • vanilla
  • Dried cranberries
  • Sweet potato
  • Flax
  • PB & Co Cinnamon & Raisin Swirl pb

I subsequently finished the jar of peanut butter last night. Usually I don’t eat while stressed but I did last night. If I’m going to go all out on something though, I’m glad it was with my favorite peanut butter.

I’m not going to lie on this blog. I don’t eat perfect all the time. I had oatmeal for breakfast, a cheddar-artichoke heart-tomato sandwich for lunch at work (sorry it was rushed, no picture!), and then a little less than half a jar of peanut butter for dinner. Sometimes I just need a peanut butter dinner (PBD). I am called Christina Butter after all.

This morning I got back on track with a sunnyside egg, a slice of toast, and a slice of the new organic cheddar cheese than I’m obsessed with.

I know better than to go food shopping with an empty stomach!

Question: What’s a food you’re most likely to go overboard with?

PB in the Morning, PB in the Evening..

A while ago I went crazy on my peanut butter collection, going through jar upon jar each week. Naturally, I had to take a break from it. A break from peanut butter. It was horrible! Anyways, I’m uber excited that my peanut butter cravings are back, especially since I have all of these to go through still :)

Yesterday I had peanut butter with every meal. Probably not the healthiest choice but it sure was an easy way to get some protein!

Breakfast was steel cut oats, mixed with an overripe banana, and topped with chia seeds, sweetened coconut, currants, and Sunland currant-cinnamon pb.

Lunch was a good ol’ peanut butter and jelly sandwich, with flax and a side of apple slices with freshly ground cinnamon.

Truthfully, I’ve never liked peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I was plagued in elementary school when my Mom would pack them in my lunch and the jelly would make the bread all soggy and gross. I shudder just thinking about it! Since then I always try to like the sandwich, but each time I make it I’m disappointed. I’ll just stick to fluffanutter sandwiches from now on..

Dinner was a tough one because there’s basically no food in my house right now. I made Lundberg’s butternut squash risotto and nuked some giant sweet potatoes in the microwave, which I topped with PB&Co cinnamon raisin swirl peanut butter. Sweet potatoes and peanut butter is like the best thing ever :)

My plan for today is to do some blog reading, go workout, and then head over to the boyfriends to have him keep me company while I apply to jobs. Hmm, my days are sounding awfully similar! Maybe something unplanned and exciting will happen today that I can tell you about. You never know!
