C’est La Vie

Happy Friday!!

I was hoping on spending my weekend with this little guy who often frequents my pool.

Instead, I’ll be working all weekend! Oh well, c’est la vie.

I had an ultra boring breakfast yesterday but I’ll show you anyways. Just a sunny side up egg with an Arnold sandwich thin for dipping.

I ended up sharing an elevator with dessert trays carrying about a million little desserts. Guess where they were going? The employee cafeteria of course! I had just told myself I was cutting back on my sweet intake. But, c’est la vie.

This tray is not even a quarter of what they brought up!

I picked the mini chocolate cake with a clementine slice on top. The cookies in the background were to bring home for Mark since I had been raving about them since I tried them last week.

They also had the cutest little creme filled ice cream cones. I love mini desserts!

Oh, yeah… I also ate some regular food for lunch. It tasted like eggplant, peppers, and mozzarella on a mini bun.

I had dinner at the boyfriend’s. His Mom made ravioli… with meat sauce. I scrounged around the refrigerator and found a lemon artichoke Parmesan spread, which turned out to be really good. I added some walnuts too.

Right now I’m in the process of making a really tough decision relating to work. I wish I could ask for advice and someone could tell me the right answer but in reality, I have to make the decision on my own.

I’m trying to tell myself that no matter which decision I make, everything will work out in the end because, hey,  c’est la vie!

Delayed

Hi everyone!!

I had my first train delay experience last night. Fun! Instead of getting home at 9pm, I got home at 10:45pm. I’m so sorry for the lack of commenting! My plan was to post in the morning and comment at night, but I was too tired to turn on the computer by the time I got home :( And now I’m off to work again so I hope you don’t mind a post of pictures. I really need to get train internet. I think I’ve decided to get the Droid.

Then I could have been commenting my little heart out while stuck on the train! But I did get to finish In Defense of Food. To be honest, at first I was a little bored by it. I’m not a nutritionist. I love food but the science stuff I’m not into. It took me a long while to get through part 1 and 2 but by part 3 I was hooked. Pollan (the author) totally pushes nutritionism to the side and gives his suggestions for healthy eating based on what human beings have done in the far past, before the introduction of processed foods. His main suggestion: Eat food, mostly plants.

I was rushed for time yesterday after I got out and had grabbed a bagel and peanut butter for a quick dinner on the train. After reading the book I felt horrible for not having any veggies!

At least I had a salad at lunch, with some rice and beans on the side. I have a new technique for taking pictures at work. I take the pictures at the buffet table before I sit down. You can’t see the tables from where the food is so as long as no one’s getting food at the same time, I’m in the clear!

Dessert, on the other hand, I had to photograph at my table. I didn’t care though because it was too pretty not to! Not sure what was in it but definitely blueberries, whipped cream, and some delicious kind of jam.

Oh, and since I’m backtracking through my food from yesterday, I also tried Angela’s overnight oats. They were, interesting. I think the gooey chia seed base was a little too much for me. I felt like I was eating jello, which I hate!

And somehow my mashed banana froze during the night. Needless to say, I’m having warm oats this morning!

Ok, I’ve got another train to catch. I guess I got rid of that only pictures idea and now I have to rush! Wish me an on-time ride back tonight :)

Question:

1) What’s your favorite “foodie” book?

2) Do you have any secrets to photographing food in public?

3) Do you prefer overnight oats or warm ones?

Free Food

Happy Friday!

Since I just started my new job, I’m kind of dreading the weekend. I’d rather be working! Let’s hope these feelings last..

Thankfully, my morning went MUCH smoother yesterday :) I even had time to make a delicioso bowl of oats.

In the bowl:

  • Steel Cut Oats
  • 1/2 banana
  • Almond Milk
  • Raisins
  • Wheat Germ
  • Mighty Maple PB

It reminded me of when I was little. My Dad always used to pour cream in our cream of wheat to make it even creamier. Mmmm. Almond milk in oats is my healthier version :)

So a cool thing about where I work, they feed you lunch! The break room is set up kind of like a little buffet. From what I’ve seen so far, there’s usually a fish and chicken entree, a starch, and vegetables. Then there’s usually a salad bar with some sort of pasta or potato salad, olives, and a whole bunch of things I didn’t know what they were. I just had some rice and vegetables today, with a small roll. The food isn’t amazing, but it’s free. Which is always good.

If you’re not feeling the hot food, they have bagels and cereals, with the regulars jam, cream cheese, butter, or PB spreads. But the best part? DESSERT!

There are multiple restaurants where I work so I’m assuming these are leftover desserts or something but they’re amazing! I might be in trouble. Today I had some sort of white chocolate mousse with a thin cake bottom and white chocolate shavings on the outside. I love fancy desserts!

I didn’t get home until 8:15pm, and by that time I was starving, so I heated up a sweet potato and topped it with a box of Green Giant boxed Health Blends. My Dad threw away the box but it included white beans, yellow carrots, and some sort of green. It was okay. Obviously not better than fresh but it did the trick!

Have a great weekend!

Question:

  1. What’s your favorite dessert?
