Internal Clocks

Hello :)

I set my alarm for 7am and woke up at 6:45am. I hate that! I have some sort of internal alarm clock where if I know I have to wake up at a certain time, I naturally wake up 5 – 15 minutes before. Good if I forget to set the alarm clock, bad if I want that extra 15 minutes of sleep. Does anyone else experience this?

Yesterday my eats were pretty mediocre. Breakfast was a fried Eggland’s Best egg with toast. The egg is always ready before the toast so I eat the egg whites while I’m waiting and then dip the toast in the yolk, and eventually make a sandwich. It’s a process!

Lunch was Quiznos again. I made an impulse purchase and asked for a cup of soup at the register and then totally didn’t want it. I never make impulse purchases and the rare times I do, I always regret them! I basically gave Quiznos 3 dollars because I had like 4 spoonfuls. I ordered tomato basil and it tasted like alla vodka sauce in a cup. Not horrible tasting but I just kept thinking about it as drinking pasta sauce. I also attempted to switch up my sub bread and got rosemary parmesan. Another bad choice, the artisan wheat is still my fav! This bread was too… rosemary-ied.

After Quiznos and errands Mark and I went back to his house and did something really exciting fell asleep. I woke up an hour and a half later, realizing I had to get my butt out the door for my scheduled run. I was meeting my Mom at 5 at the ponds. My training was walk 1 mile, run 4, and speed walk 1. I walked a mile, and then ran towards the ponds, stopping off in some weird little neighborhood full of cul-de-sacs to add mileage. I ran in like 5 little circles, and then continued on my way. I ended up having .25 miles to run when reaching my Mom and told her to walk ahead and I would turn around and catch up to her. I didn’t realize how fast she walks – I had to sprint an extra quarter of a mile to catch up!

I went home for dinner and a shower afterward. I stir fried my co-op collard greens in a drop of walnut oil and added in chickpeas, raisins, carrots, and walnuts at the end.

I ate dinner with my parents while watching House Hunters Berlin. I was surprised that there was so much graffiti there! Maybe they’re artsy in Berlin?

Today I’m going to Manhattan for an interview :) Wish me luck!

Questions:

  1. Are you an impulse buyer?
  2. What’s your favorite way to eat eggs?

The Unusual

Buongiorno :) Hope you all had a great weekend!!

I did a lot of the usual: weekend breakfasts with the parents…

Banana-walnut pancakes with maple syrup

Eggland’s Best egg with pepperjack cheese on whole wheat sesame roll

And then did some of the unusual: went out to eat, twice! I rarely go out to eat since I’m too cheap to spend 30 dollars on a meal that I could make just as good myself. But, you know, sometimes it’s worth it.

Since Mark accompanied me to the doctor Friday (which is a first in the 7 years we’ve been together, he’s too much of an impatient person for doctors offices!) I treated him to lunch. The only restaurant nearby was Friendly’s. Lets just say it brought back memories. I probably hadn’t been to one since I was 12!

I ordered cheese quesadillas, one of the few veggie options.

And then we of course split a sundae. You can’t go to Friendly’s and not get a sundae! We had caramel ice cream topped with hot fudge and heath crumbles.

Now on a side note, thanks for all your well wishes for my interview! In the end, I decided the commute was too far for the salary. I don’t want to drive an hour and 20 minutes every day! At least if I work in NYC I can read on the train. So, my job search continues..

Due to my little job depression that day, my Dad finally took me out for my birthday dinner that he owed me on Saturday night (you can see where I get my restaurant cheapness from, my birthday was in September!). We went to Plum house, a restaurant in my town I’ve been dying to try after hearing rave reviews.

Unfortunately it had the worst lighting EVER and I didn’t get any pictures. I ordered the tuna steak as my entree and we had shrimp dumplings and scallops for the appetizer. It was pretty good, but the service was horrible. We didn’t have our water refilled the entire meal, even after asking. I did end up running into half of my extended family there though, even though they’re from a few towns over. It’s a small world!

I’ll just sub my tuna steak with a picture of salmon I had for dinner last night. Look how gourmet Mark’s Mom tries to prepare my meals because she knows I take pictures. She’s so cute!

Now off to work. My lower back has been killing me since Saturday morning. I can’t think of anything I’ve done to hurt it and thought I just slept wrong but it still hurts days later! Hopefully it eases up today. I need full body function for vacation next week. I think we may try skiing while we’re there :) I haven’t skiied in like 8 years so you’ll have to wish me some luck. I’m hoping it’s like riding a bicycle and I’ll immediately pick it back up.

Question: Have you ever tried to do something, like skiing, after a long hiatus? Was it as easy as you remembered?

A Stressful Vacation?

Happy hump day!

This August is my Mom’s 50th birthday. She’s one of those hard core birthday people. Her birthday usually lasts the entire month of August, not just the one day. So you can imagine the stigma surrounding this upcoming milestone. She’s been talking about it since last year. All she wanted was a trip with my brother and I.

It didn’t look like it was happening and now a good deal came up and it’s possible we’re going to book a cruise to Bermuda. While this is exciting (I’m always up for extra vacations!), I already booked my vacation to Vancouver and now I have to ask my manager to get another week off, which is stressing me out ’cause I have no idea if she’ll allow it.

Some stress busting ideas from Reader’s Digest:

  • Spray sheets with lavender, which aids sleep and relaxation
  • Pop some bubble wrap (I have an abundance of this since my job is selling crystal!)
  • Practice yoga
  • Drink green tea
  • Exercise
  • Go on vacation (ironic in this situation!)

The smell of lavender always works for me. There’s definitely something in that smell that naturally causes relaxation!

Anyways, after spending all morning planning with my Dad, we needed a quickie breakfast. We broke out the Eggland’s Best eggs that I got for free from the Foodbuzz Tastemakers program. These are actually the only eggs we’ve ever use in my family.

  • High in Vitamin E (more than 10x regular eggs)
  • Contain 100 mg of Omega 3
  • 25% less saturated fat than regular eggs
  • Contain less cholesterol than regular eggs
  • Contain 200 mcg of Lutein, which is good for the eyes
  • Hens are fed a vegetarian, all-natural feed
  • Hormones, steroids, or antibiotics are never used

They’re just superior eggs all around :) We had a sunny side up egg with a slice of organic cheddar on top of a ciabatta roll.

Speaking of my Dad, he made dinner for my Mom and I last night, which turned into a sort of blogging argument. This was due to the fact that he didn’t make everything to be ready at the same time and I couldn’t take a picture. So here’s the picture I got:

Really, I had string beans as well and only ate one piece of the seasoned, baked tilapia. The organic potato was topped with Smart Balance and garlic seasoning.

Questions:

  1. Do you celebrate your birthday only on that day or for the whole week (or month)?
  2. What’s your favorite way to deal with stress?
  3. Does taking pictures of your food ever cause any problems for you?

That’s a lot of questions so I want a lot of comments :) As for my birthday, I’m more of a ‘just that day’ kind of birthday girl.

Now I’m off to shower and go to Marshalls (a TJ Maxx lookalike if you’ve never heard of it) in NJ to hopefully find a pair of rainboots for my upcoming Vancouver adventure :) Then it’s back here for dinner with the parents and grandparents tonight.

Ciao!
