Get Naked

Sorry, I couldn’t resist the title! Don’t worry, there’s no human nakedness involved.

So depending how long you’ve been reading, you know I get random obsessions and will eat some certain thing every single day until I’m totally sick of it. Or maybe you don’t know because I usually don’t post them more than a few times on the blog. I try to keep it interesting!

Anyways, my newest obsession is not a food but -gasp- a drink! A very Naked drink to be exact.

I like how they have the number of fruit contained in the bottle listed on the side. I always feel really healthy drinking them.

Anddd that 3/4 of a banana? Rain Forest Alliance certified! You can read more about that here.

Last but not least, the bottle used is 100% recycled and recyclable.

Now that’s a company I don’t mind giving my money to. Especially since not only are they earth conscious, but their product tastes really really good. Even the green ones!

Yes, apparently I’ve taken food photography to a new level. Who says you can’t photograph things in their natural setting? Green drinks must originate from a moss filled forest!

These are the only two flavors I’ve tried because I can’t find any others in my stores :( I hope they expand because blue machine (blueberry, blackberry, banana blend) sounds right up my alley!

It’s almost my last day at the Yale Club. Goodbye delicious free meals! Last time I worked I got this salmon salad. Gosh, remind me why I’m leaving again?

At my new job I have to bring my own lunch until the season starts up. Then I’ll get a free hot lunch, but I’ll probably end up bringing my own anyway because I’m sure camp food is not the healthiest. I wonder if there are any healthy food camps out there. If I were a parent I’d want my child having real food! Lets cross our fingers that that’s the kind of food my camp serves :) I’ve been bringing salads for lunch. Example A:

Examples B and C pretty much look exactly the same. I need more (vegetarian) lunch ideas – help!

Chocolate Cheerios Review

Hey bloggies :)

I finally just got a camera back in service so no pictures of yesterdays eats :( I did, however, try a new product – Chocolate Cheerios!

My Mom is what I call a non-healther. She eats what she likes, regardless of it’s nutritional value, and doesn’t think anything of it. She hates anything plain, never drinks pure water (it needs lemon & splenda!), and hardly ever eats breakfast. Ok, well I’ll stop bullying poor Mom but the point is, it’s hard to find a cereal she’ll eat, which is why these Chocolate Cheerios ended up in the shopping cart (But by the way, I’m grateful I took after my Dad’s eating habits!).

I know, I know – it’s not much of a health food but I actually was pleasantly surprised by its stats. The ingredient list is not too long or crazy:

As for nutritional stats:

The good:

  • Only 1 gram of fat
  • 100 calories per 3/4 cup serving
  • 60mg Potassium
  • 25% Vitamin C, Iron, Vitamin b12, and Zinc
  • 50% Folic Acid (Vitamin b9)
  • 9g of sugar

Although I try to keep my regular cereals at 6 or less grams of sugar per serving, I thought these cheerios would at least have 12 grams or more. 9 seems pretty good for this chocolaty treat. Even the Kashi Heart to Heart Blueberry Clusters cereal that I tried yesterday has 12 grams!

The Bad

  • Only 1g protein
  • Only 1g fiber

You know I love my fiber and 1g definitely wouldn’t cut it for me!

The Verdict

For myself, Iwould eat this as a afternoon snack or dessert. As a breakfast, it wouldn’t keep me full enough to make it through my 5 hour work shifts. For any non-healthers out there though, it is made with whole grains so it does contain vitamins and minerals, and has a fairly healthy ingredient list, so it’s better than eating no breakfast at all!

And, I forgot to mention that it tastes good! It reminds me of the cocoa puffs I used to eat as a kid. Realizing that both these products are from General Mills, I noticed that they also have an extremely similar ingredient list, although the chocolate cheerios are slightly healthier, with 2g less sugar.

Question: Any non-healthers in your family? Are there any tricks you use to get them to eat healthier? As long as I make flavorful healthy meals, my Mom will eat them. I’ve even gotten her to like tofu!

Sensored

Happy Wednesday!

Food

I opened a new flav of pb this morning to try – Hickory Smoked. I wasn’t sure what to expect from this flavor but since ham is usually hickory smoked, I decided to pair it with some cheddar cheese on a whole grain English muffin, with the last minute addition of some granny smith apple slices.

While I have to say the picture of this deliciously melty breakfast looks tasty, I wasn’t a fan of the peanut butter. All it reminded me of was ham, which I don’t eat. I liked that it was a crunchy peanut butter but the peanut taste was overcome by the hickory smoked flavor.

For lunch I made a box of Near East broccoli & cheese couscous and topped it with a stir fry of broccoli, onions, garlic, and cherry tomatoes.

Good tasting but my boyfriend said I smelled like onions for the rest of the day. Not a good thing..

Dinner was leftovers. Mom’s baked ziti from Sunday and frozen spinach from the night before. And by the way, this is a really small plate, it really wasn’t that much food!

Wii Active Update

As you know, I’ve been doing the 30 day challenge on Wii Active. The program suggests doing it for 2 days, and then taking a rest day but I’ve noticed that I’m working the same muscles on those two days. For instance, I did lunges and bicep curls every single day of the challenge. From my past workout experience, I know that you should give your muscles 48 hours of rest before working them again.

In addition, I’ve also noticed that there’s not much ab work being had in the challenge. At least not yet.

Fitness

Today I rode the stationary bike for 60 minutes (I had to finish Women’s Health December Issue. I hate being behind!) and then got on the Wii Fit since it was my off day from Wii Active. I decided to do some ab work since I haven’t done any. After 30 minutes and three sets of jackknifes, 1 minute planks, and torso twists, I know it’ll hurt to laugh tomorrow!

One good thing about the Wii Active is that it’s doing a good job in getting my whole family to work out. We all got onto my body sensor on Sunday and have a clipboard of our stats. Every Sunday we’re going to take them again to see our progress.

My stats

Weight: 121.4 lbs

BMI: 22

Body Fat Percentage: 31.8

Skeletal Muscle Percentage: 27.5

Resting Metabolism: 1224

Body Age: 27

Visceral Fat Level: 4

The normal body fat percentage range for women aged 20-39 is 21.0-32.9 so my goal is to get mine down a little bit.

Question: How do you measure your progress?
