The Dog Bowl

Is there any bowl or dish you hated growing up? Yeah, weird question. Who hates on bowls or dishes? Well, I do! My Dad LOVES this white bowl which, to me, always resembled a dog bowl. It’d be perfect for a little puppy to be eating out of, not me! Since then this bowl has been termed “the dog bowl” but I’ve noticed myself eating out of it more and more lately. The reason being when I make my Dad and I oats, I need two of the same size bowls to make sure I give us even portions. Note to self: go buy cute matching bowls!

I was rushing for breakfast yesterday so I had a bowl of “rice oats,” or just leftover brown rice microwaved in some almond milk. The add ins:

  • Raisins
  • Chia Seeds
  • Mighty Maple pb

I might have gone overboard with the peanut butter. I’m the worst at portion sizes! I have no natural sense of measurements.

Speaking of portion sizes, in the past couple years I got a bit obsessive with calorie counting and measuring my food and all that good stuff. Recently I had decided just to go with the flow, and not worry about anything and hope for the best. It worked! I weighed myself for the first time in 3 months yesterday and I was at 118. I’ve finally found my happy weight :)

Lunch was a mediocre dish of barley mixed with too little pesto, shredded carrots, and tomatoes. I think it needed some spice. I usually cook my grains in veggie broth, but I forgot to do it this time.

After work I snacked on a handful of almonds while running errands.

And made it to Mark’s for dinner. Cold cuts were on the menu so I made myself a veggie sandwich.

On the onion bun:

  • avocado
  • roasted asparagus
  • roasted zucchini
  • provolone
  • oil & vinegar

I thought it was so cute how it looked like a little burger with that bun!

My back/shoulder muscles have been KILLING me since doing that boxing Wii game. I think the soreness is actually worse today! I’m going to attempt my last long run before my race on Sunday, go walking with Cassandra, and then be a taxi drive Mark to the DMV so he can get his own car back on the road. I also have to get something fixed on my car. Ugh, I hate car stuff!

Then tonight is LOST, so I’ll do anything before that to make the day pass quicker :)

Questions:

  1. Does any of your dishware have a name?
  2. Do you know your happy weight? It took me 2 years to figure it out. I always felt I had to be lighter. This time I let the mirror tell me when I looked good and then weighed myself. That way, It didn’t matter what number showed up.

Around the World

I was so surprised at your comments yesterday – who am I to assume because I call it oatmeal, everybody does?!?

That’s another thing I love about blogging, I get to learn so much about other cultures and family traditions. I found out from Ellie it’s called porridge in the U.K., from Neela it’s also called that in Australia, and from Sophia that it’s called rice gruel in Asia!

What other foods can you think of that have different names in different areas of the world? Even just moving from New York to Pittsburgh I could notice differences – I said soda, they said pop, I said sprinkles, they said jimmies.

I had breakfast at Mark’s yesterday. His Dad is a Dunkin Donuts addict so wasn’t surprised to see a DD bag on the counter when I went downstairs. I made myself a multigrain bagel with Naturally More PB and wheat germ with instant black coffee on the side.

Dunkin Donuts really hit the mark with the new multi-grain donut though. It was really good, and had real grains in it. It had 9 grams of fiber, but also 390 calories. A little more caloric than my normal breakfasts once I add my pb spread but I say a big breakfast is always better than no breakfast at all!

Then I got snowed in at work for the early half of the day.

After having to be pushed out of my parking spot by a stranger (thank God for him!) , I made it back to Mark’s house since he lives closer to my job than I do. I took this picture on my way in, but I really wish I had remembered to take one on the way out. So far my town has gotten 20 inches, the most in downstate NY!

I was ravenous because I never got lunch break. I immediately dipped into his box of zbars that he keeps in his room.

The honey graham flavor is my favorite but was his least favorite out of the variety pack – the others being chocolate chip and brownie. Lucky for me because now there’s a million left!

I proceeded to have a can of vegetable soup for lunch, nothing worth photographing. I hate being snowed in here because I have a thing with cooking in houses that aren’t my own.

For dinner I had salmon with a side of roasted red peppers.

Linner Time

Happy  LOST Tuesday :) Yeah, I’m obsessed.

I spent last night watching back to back episodes of Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations. In the first episode he was in Vancouver, which is where I’m vacationing next month (and also my dream place to live) and in the second episode he was in the Hudson Valley, which is where I live now. It was pretty cool to watch them back to back. I’ll have to say Vancouver looked more exciting, although I had no idea Bill Murray lives around here! At least I got three restaurants to take into consideration when choosing the most important thing about vacation: where to eat.

Backtracking to yesterday morning, my day started with some Cream of Wheat. Why is it so cold out right now? I heard tonight we’re supposed to get 12 inches of snow. I’m ready for Spring! Either way, my breakfast kept me nice and toasty.

I topped it with sliced almonds, flax, dried cranberries, and cinnamon-currant peanut butter.

I then went to work 10-3, but ended up staying til 4. I had brought no lunch since I was only working 5 hours. Halfway through the shift I whipped out this raw brownie.

It was good, with a really strong cocoa powder taste, and luckily very filling. With 275 calories in that little thing it better be!

Shortly after work I got hungry again. I was at Mark’s and scoured his kitchen to find something blog worthy to eat. I made myself a little platter of carrots, celery, roasted red pepper hummus, olives, and French bread.

It turned out to be a linner since it was around 5:30 already.

The stationary bike downstairs is calling my name. Oh I can’t wait til it’s warm enough to run outside! If you haven’t entered my Endless Possibilities Giveaway yet, enter here!

Question: Where’s a place you would love to live?
